Composer’s Commentary
When it comes to the subject of relaxing background music for guided meditations, I often categorise music into two main groups…
One is “purely meditative” music that features very little instrumentation and is mainly focussed on providing a pillow of soothing background sound.
The second is “character pieces”. These are compositions that are relaxing, but are also designed to provide a more emotionally engaging musical experience. They tend to feature melodies and/or musical progressions that take you on a journey, rather than just “holding the space”.
Across The Sky falls right on the boundary where these two categories meet. It’s slow, subtle and sparse enough to remain in the background, supporting your guiding words without drawing too much attention to itself. But at the same time, it is undeniably characterful. It has a memorable, surreal atmosphere that really helps to engage your listeners and ease them into a state of deep relaxation.
This is a very recognisable composition that will leave an impression on your audience, an impression that will help to re-trigger relaxation almost immediately upon successive listens.
