There is a natural healing center in Sedona, Arizona that displays the slogan “Get Your Issues Out of Your Tissues”. More than a slogan, this is the fundamental goal of their integrated energy therapy.

This slogan really got me thinking about how higher energies are channelled into the body during natural healing sessions and I was compelled to create some music that embodied this process; music that would symbolize the merging of healing energies (heaven) with the physical body (earth).

As I composed this music, I entered into a state of deep relaxation and entertained various mental pictures, like the image of a masseur – his hands gently kneading deep tissues, and images of light merging with flesh.

I’m accustomed to writing music while in a meditative state of mind. I can sustain these light trance states for hours on end if necessary. But Heaven and Earth was a different story. Composing it and mixing it just made me so groggy! My body would become heavy and on more than one occasion I resigned myself to exhaustion and snoozed right there on the floor in my studio. It took over 8 months to complete this music.

I shared Heaven and Earth with the Sedona HeartWalk Center (their feedback is presented a little further down this page) and they reported similar responses to the music.

Heaven and Earth can be quite an enveloping experience. It may make you feel very heavy, it can lead to emotional releases, and if you are in need of healing, it will encourage you to take the rest you need. The small puddle of drool on the floor of my recording studio is a testament to the power of this music.

“The first time I listened to it, after 10 minutes, I burst into tears. I didn’t even realize I had things to be released, but I sure felt better! If I had to describe the effects of this music, I would say, Heaven and Earth allowed me to relax completely, to let go of past pain easily and effortlessly, to connect more profoundly with the divine presence in my life, and to be a more perfect channel for that presence.

Comments on the Subtle Edition

The original version of Heaven and Earth is what I call “A Personality Piece”. I sometimes use this term to describe relaxation music that features distinct melodies and/or instrumentation. Music like this can be blissful to listen to, but may be a little too “forward” for people who prefer extremely gentle music that stays well and truly in the background. For example, in the original edition of Heaven and Earth you will hear some delightful bell sounds. These bells, along with some other sounds, are absent in the Subtle Edition.

I know full well that when it comes to meditation and hypnosis recordings, sometimes a much more subtle, gentle musical experience is required. Sometimes music can have a little too much personality!

For those who prefer background music that is less vivid – music that provides a soothing pillow of support to your guiding words and can support very deep states of meditation, hypnosis or sleep, I created this music for you.

An extraordinary amount of time goes into the creation of a Subtle Edition such as this. I don’t simply mute selected instruments. I reconsider the entire composition and the way it is mixed. For example, the way sounds swell in and out is generally slower, and the volume balance is adjusted in many subtle ways and the tempo and timing of every instrument is adjusted. I’m quite sure I made over 1,000 small changes to the original version of Heaven and Earth while creating the Subtle Edition.
