Composer’s Commentary

I created these recordings to provide you with a wide range of sounds that you can blend together in any way you like.

Not only can you blend tracks to create new musical atmospheres, but you can also transition from one track to the next so as to gradually change from one mood to another. This will result in an original and cohesive musical production that is shaped to fit your narration.

I hope you’ll find this collection both fun and satisfying to work with. Here are my comments on the tracks included in this collection, along with a few suggestions for combining them in your projects.

Comments on Sunset, Sunrise

The track “Sunset, Sunrise” is a short but expressive track that helps to bring a sense of occasion to your recordings. This elegant music is emotive, heartwarming and gently inspiring. You may find it especially useful as a beginning or ending track in your media productions.

“Sunset, Sunrise” leads perfectly into all of the other tracks included in “Sunset at the Sanctuary”. Simply allow the long, slow tail-end of this music to fade out as you introduce one of the other soundtracks in this collection. They are all designed to overlap seamlessly. For example, try fading in the “Sanctuary Chime Melodies” or “The Deepening Glow” as this music comes to a close.

Sunset, Sunrise can also be enhanced by adding some of the nature sounds included in this collection. They are a match made in heaven!

Comments on The Deepening Glow

Now we get into the deep stuff. The REALLY deep stuff. I created this music as a bed for deep states of meditation, hypnosis and sleep. It is designed to play an active role in relaxing your listeners, but without drawing too much attention to itself.

As you may know, during periods of deep relaxation, commonly used new age instruments like pianos, flutes, and bells can sometimes be distracting. For this reason, The Deepening Glow utilises only the most subdued, flowing instrumentation.

This music is very gentle and VERY slow, and has a tonality that is quite muted. Deep, enveloping bass is sustained throughout this composition, providing a soothing foundational drone that helps to calm the nervous system and engender feelings of safety. The music holds you; it’s instantly comforting and soporific.

You’ll also hear soft melodies playing at a very slow tempo. These melodies gently engage the listener by providing some gradual movement and a feeling of harmony.

The Deepening Glow can be mixed with many of the other tracks in this collection, but it doesn’t necessarily require them. It might be the one and only track you need for your next recording. Anytime you need a slow, sleepy backdrop of gentle music, The Deepening Glow is a great choice. But should you wish to accentuate this music with any of the following tracks, you’ll find that they blend together beautifully.

Comments on The Deepening Glow – Deep Sleep Loop

When you need to go even deeper, “The Deepening Glow – Deep Sleep Loop” is there to hold the space. This 5 minute track is perfectly looped so you can extend it to any duration you like.

This Deep Sleep Loop is a simplified version of The Deepening Glow. The warm, foundational bed of sound is perfect for those times when you have guided your listener into a very deep state of relaxation and wish to give them the opportunity to sink even deeper. The minimalistic nature of this music is perfect for that.

There are a few ways you could use this music…

Firstly, there is no reason why you can’t use this Deep Sleep Loop all by itself as a backdrop to a guided journey for stress relief or sleep. Some people respond extremely well to the soothing effect of a simple, deep drone.

Alternatively, you might use it only in the deepest parts of a guided meditation or hypnosis recording, transitioning from The Deepening Glow to the Deep Sleep Loop when the deepest states of relaxation are reached. It’s so easy to do this. Simply fade out “The Deepening Glow” while fading in the “Deep Sleep Loop”. The music is designed to transition from one to the other seamlessly, allowing you to create pockets of incredibly deep stillness in your recordings whenever you wish.

You might also consider adding other sounds to this Deep Sleep Loop, like ocean waves for example. The combination of a deep drone and ocean waves can be a delightfully relaxing experience. Other sounds in this collection such as the Sanctuary Chime Melodies and Sweet Sunset Birdsong can also be blended with this drone, either to add atmosphere or as a sonic cue that begins to lift your listeners into an awakened state.

Comments on Sanctuary Chime Melodies at Sunset

The wind chimes featured in this recording are called “Sanctuary Chimes”. They are fairly large wind chimes with exquisite bell-like tones.

Just like “Sunset, Sunrise” these Sanctuary Chime recordings really come to life when combined with some of the nature sounds I’ve provided in this collection.

You could use these chimes in a variety of different ways. For example, you can use them as an intro/outtro sound in a guided meditation, or as an awakening sound that helps refresh your listeners at the tail end of a guided journey. Try combining them with the track “The Deepening Glow” by slowly fading them in when you wish to bring your listeners back from a deep state of relaxation.

You could also use these wind chime sounds as an alternative to traditional meditation music. Simply blend them with nature sounds for a really atmospheric meditation set in a garden or forest. I also recommend you try blending them with the track “The Deepening Glow – Deep Sleep Loop” which adds a whole new dimension to these sounds. They go hand in hand.

Quick recording tip: These wind chimes have a clear, bright tone. Be sure to mix them in to your recordings at a modest volume. Less is more with sounds like these.

Comments on Nature Sounds

The nature sounds included in Sunset at the Sanctuary are all new original recordings that I captured in the forests surrounding my recording studio in Apollo Bay.

To record sounds like these, I use a specialised microphone rig which I sometimes leave outside for up to 24 hours at a time. Between December 2024 and February 2025 I amassed around 200 hours of recordings and from these I selected a few gems for release at Enlightened Audio.

These delightful recordings are very clean and have a natural stereo presentation that feels “true to life”. They also have a perfect balance of animal calls and quieter spaces in between. I find that nature sound recordings can be overwhelming if there are too many animals making noises too often. These recordings are spacious and peaceful. In fact, there’s enough space in these recordings that you can blend all three of them together at once if you wish.

While you can use these nature sounds to accentuate any music from Enlightened Audio, I think they suit this collection particularly well.

The birdsong is especially sweet, and during the sunset hours in which these recordings were taken, some interesting insects also chime in, giving these recordings a unique and memorable sonic identity.

Quick recording tip: I produced these recordings at a fairly loud volume in order to preserve their wide dynamic range. As such, they are probably louder than you need them to be. Please remember to lower their volume to taste when using them in your recordings.

The origin of Sanctuary Chimes

The wind chimes used in this music are called Sanctuary Chimes. They are chimes that I developed with the help of Australia’s premier wind chime maker, Windsong Chimes. I designed this wind chime, not only to use within my music, but also for you, to make your own home feel like a sanctuary – a place of peace that’s special to you.

If you’d like one for yourself (or as a memorable gift for someone you love), please feel free to order one from Windsong Chimes here:
